59% of Dutch residents live under the water surface and the mission of the water authorities is to keep their feet dry. To complete their mission, water authorities are obliged to collect taxes from citizens. In this duo presentation, Michel Zwart, Enterprise Architect at HHNK and René Wiersma, Enterprise Architect at Yenlo, will explain how WSO2 technology enabled HHNK to create an online portal for citizens to check and pay tax statements directly.

The results were amazing: HHNK received payments on tax statements sooner and irreversible due to increased usability. Additionally, they spend less effort on collection, they received less phone calls, and they received less mail. The icing on the cake was winning the price of best Dutch water authority. Underneath, the WSO2 API Manager, AS, ESB and DSS did all the intelligent work. Tax application was connected to the ESB and the APIs were published, which enabled the cloud web portal to integrate all data securely. Additionally, HHNK gained flexibility with the ESB that fit their best-of-breed IT application strategy. The portal is already extended to residents to report on incidents or ask for permission to change the water management system. HHNK continues to innovate with WSO2 technology.

Developing and deploying software in complex, multi platform environments involves managing many moving parts. In normal app development, only application artifacts are bundled in the application delivery pack (downloadable zip. tgz, etc). With containers, a developer can get a bundled form of the actual infrastructure (i.e. the base OS, middleware, runtime, and application) in the same container image. With the use of API management they are not only aiming to reduce the internal costs for handling cases, but also to provide APIs to reduce the costs for customers through higher business process automation.

Finam is the leader in the brokerage sector in Russia, and they enable investors to work with national and international stock exchanges. This business has high demands in client security and compliance, and fraud prevention. These requirements include working in realtime with very intensive data streams from different data sources, like stock exchanges, client terminals, etc. It needs to find correlation between events in different streams with short time windows, down to tens milliseconds. A CEP framework was chosen as the best solution for these tasks, and WSO2 CEP was selected for a pilot solution.

The key reason to choose WSO2 CEP was because it open source; it helped Finam to quickly make changes and adopt and integrate it with existing streams and systems and implement the solution at low cost. Testing also showed a high level of readiness of the platform; it has an in-build ability to work with streams by leveraging the user-friendly Siddhi language, has the ability to work with events within millisecond timeframes, and has proven stability to expand the technology to realtime risk management and algorithmic trading.

The story will be useful for organizations that want to get started with WSO2 CEP, and specifically looking for a business tasks solution with low cost implementation.

Home care plays an important role in the Clinical Pathway Management Process and, in particular, the post-recovery process. Regardless of who carries out the caregiving activities, a flexible and robust software infrastructure is crucial for patient monitoring and management. Home Caring Systems is focused on a holistic vision of the patient and so it needs to strictly integrate the patient’s home with a wide network of healthcare services (i.e. hospitals, surgeries, psychological care centers, etc.) as each will cater to the specific aspects of the patient's requirements. This integration is complex as it covers devices (electromedical devices, homecaring robots), applications (EHR, healthcare monitoring systems, early warning systems, domain specific applications), humans (patients, caregivers, doctors, psychologists) and field services (logistics, patient transport).

WSO2, with its complete and modular architecture, is an outstanding solution for this scenario, as it implements the right level of cooperation, orchestration, and integration between the home and healthcare services. A wise mix of WSO2 modules represent an excellent response to home caring requirements. After several experiments, a balanced set of modules (IoT, API, IS, EI, and analytics) was selected and an effective solution was designed, representing a proven and robust cloud oriented reference architecture for home care systems.

In this talk, Thomas explains how they designed and built an integration platform around WSO2 ESB to expose internal services to external applications (SaaS, external partners) and how this became a central component of the collaboration between every actor of integration projects.

This was built for a very big group (more than 200 000 employees) with very large and distributed IT departments (hundreds of applications, thousands of flows and thousands of IT people). This had an impact on the project because it required distinctive features from the solution:

• Maximum isolation between projects - multiple projects use the same WSO2 instances, but they don't want to force deployment on the same schedule when possible
• Easy development environment setup
• Continuous deployment integration
• Integrated environment and credentials management
• High availability

These requirements had an impact on every step of the project from naming conventions to deployment automation and middleware monitoring.

The presentation will focus on the design of this solution, how it was built, how it made collaboration between developers, technical teams, architects and projects managers easier, and what they learnt along the project.
